There’s a certain time of year, though, when those red carpets are more star-studded than usual. A week when international celebrities find themselves in a theatrical venue lit by the Maui moon. This standing celebration hosted each June is, of course, the Maui Film Festival. Hear about what the festival holds in store and one is instantly compelled to make reservations for next year’s event so they can commune, as I did, with the stars.

While Humuhumunukunukuapua‘a is a mouthful to say, the showcase restaurant at the Grand Wailea is one of the most popular on Maui and rightly so. Award-winning Chef Michael Lofaro has crafted an easy to navigate exceptional menu of the most extraordinary appetizers (called pupus in Hawaii) , entrees and desserts. Like this Examiner, most people who visit Maui regularly put a dinner at Humu (easier to say) on their dining list. In addition to the pleasing the palate the sensory seaside setting surrounded by a lagoon is just about as romantic as it gets.

The 17th Annual Maui Film Festival took place June 15-19, 2016 in Wailea, Hawaii and the Island was abuzz with all things Film. In addition to honoring Viola Davis and Bryan Cranston for the year’s Navigator Awards, Michael Jordan took home the Rainmaker.
Dining at the Shops at Wailea is one of the center’s biggest draws and the Shops happily welcome a new Maui Gastropub, The Pint & Cork which opened its doors on Monday June 13, 2016
The Pint & Cork marries high-quality and upscale comfort food featuring local ingredients with smaller-production pub brews, refined wine selections and creative cocktails.
Executive Chef, Maka Kwon shares the establishment’s mission, “Our team is extremely passionate about what we do. The menu is uncomplicated and executed beautifully with a Hawaiian twist, of course.”
July will mark the grand opening of Wailea’s Marriott Residence Inn Maui, offering visitors affordable accommodations in Wailea coupled with a local economic boost for the island.
Plans for the Residence Inn Maui was publicly announced in February 2014. The $1.45 million building permit was issued to R.D. Olson Development company in early 2015, creating 250+ jobs during the 18-month construction phase; daily hotel operations would then provide an additional 50+ full-time positions once opened.

The 2016 Maui Film Festival Schedule of Events is complete and off to a great start.
The annual event rolls into its 17th year from June 15-19, 2016 in Wailea. The Festival features some of Maui’s great venues for an impressive list of film screenings: Wailea Beach’s Toes-in-the-Sand Cinema, the Castle Theater at Kahului’s Maui Arts & Cultural Center and the Celestial Cinema at Wailea’s Golf and Emerald Golf Course – a crowd favorite. The Maui Film Festival will also be paying tribute to filmmakers and presenting awards to several Hollywood A-Listers.
